The comics in this unique event are all self-published independent zines covering topics ranging from LGBTQ personal stories and fantasy to romance, textbooks on political protest and activism, sex work, sexuality and sex toys. The festival is an online version of DIY zine festivals featuring creators from around the world. That’s a far cry from corporate-sponsored comics and corporate-owned superhero books and merchandise. The spirit of punk and DIY zines now have their own international online scam where they can sell digital PDFs of their comics and zines which will be emailed directly to buyers.

Bluestockings staff too tweeted customers to support them when placing their comic and zine orders, as a real human staff member would grab the links and email them. This means that they sell the digital comics and zines during business hours until 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. They also remind buyers NOT to ship orders to avoid paying extra. You can access the festival and the comics at Bluestockings Collective website.

Bluestockings Cooperative is literally the last progressive, worker-owned bookstore in all of New York City. They do a lot of local community outreach such as distributing goodie backs containing soap, toothpaste, hand sanitizer and socks to the needy and homeless and offering CPR classes and a training to save people who overdose on drugs.

Bluestockings Digital Comics Fest takes place from May 23rd to May 29e.
