Madefire publishes and distributes digital comics with a focus on their Motion Book technology. They just announced a deal with DC Comics for a major expansion of the service, bringing tens of thousands of back catalog DC comics to the platform and agreeing that new and regularly updated titles from DC will appear. . And that, therefore, by 2018, Madefire will host over 80,000 titles as part of its library.
And Madefire starts by including Black Nights: Metal #1 and all other DC Comics launching this week. From their press release,
“As a leader and innovator in digital comics, Madefire has been a great partner for DC and I’m thrilled that this expansion brings our vast lineup to an even wider audience,” said Jim Lee, publisher of DCEntertainment. “Now, for the first time, exciting DC titles like DARK NIGHTS: METAL will be available for Windows digital players, Apple TV and Android TV – all through the Madefire app.”
Although for ComiXology, DC Comics App or Amazon Kindle it looks like business as usual. None of these titles seem to have any aspects of animated comics. Also from their press release,
“DC is a global leader in comic book entertainment and we are extremely excited to bring their legendary catalog of titles to our platform,” said Ben Wolstenholme, CEO of Madefire and creator of Motion Book. “Providing a single digital destination for the entire DC experience is one thing, but we believe our five-star, multi-award-winning platform will deliver a digital experience that does justice to the DC brand. Madefire is renowned for prioritizing the reader. , without ever taking our customers away from their content and providing an experience that is significantly superior to other digital services.”
One thing it does, however, is broaden the scope. And makes DC Comics less dependent on ComiXology, which also developed its app and is owned by Amazon. Expect more exciting moves as ComiXology contracts come up for renewal and publishers start looking for wiggle room. And as they say,
Any purchase made on an individual Madefire account can be viewed at no additional cost using Madefire’s cross-platform technology, available on iOS, Android™, Windows, as well as Apple® TV and Android® TV.
For those who want to read comics on their TV, this is a killer app. Oh and like the DC Comics app, but unlike ComiXology, it allows in-app purchases.
The full catalog of DC titles begins arriving on the Madefire platform today, adding to the already impressive 30,000 comics, graphic novels and Motion Books published by the industry’s top creators and publishers, including: Archie®, IDW®, Boom®! , Dynamite®, Titan®, Valiant®, and more.
And with that, I have to stop because I can’t take so many ® one after the other…
