Digital comics

Digital comics only represent 9% in North America

Digital comics are easy to buy, but they have not been accepted by Canadian and American readers. Only 9% of comic book sales are sold through Amazon-owned comiXology and other distribution channels and only generated $ 100 million in 2019. 90% of physical comics are sold in bookstores and stores in comics.

ICv2 estimated the total value of the North American market to be $ 1.095 billion in the United States and Canada in 2018, up slightly from the $ 1.015 billion in 2017. Generally, increases in the overall market are due to the two biggest companies in the comic book industry, Marvel and DC, both of which publish almost exclusively corporate-owned superhero comics and together account for around 80% of all comics sold in the market direct.

While comic book stores make up the vast majority of superhero comics, titles sell in bookstores, like Indigo Books and Music and Barnes and Noble, anything but. According to Bookscan, comics and graphic novels aimed at children account for 41%; manga represents 28%. Superhero content is below 10%, down 9.6% year over year.
